It’s not just Termites and Insects, another common Geelong pest, is the rodent.Posted on April 30, 2016
Disease carrying rodent habits and indications.
Around this time of year, the cold weather forces rodents to nest and forage for food indoors. This means that home is more susceptible to infestation, which can present some pretty serious risks. Rodents have been known to cause fires in roofs and within wall cavities as a result of gnawing through electrical wires. They have also been known to gnaw through plumbing pipes, resulting in significant water damage to homes.
The infestation of rats doesn’t take long to start up at all. Some species are capable of producing litters of 10+ young every three weeks. Within around 10 weeks these young are able to start breeding.
It is often quite easy to tell whether or not rodents are an issue in your home. Obvious indicators of their presence include hearing them run, squeak and gnaw, droppings, an odour, as well as damage to food packaging. Rodents tend to have oily fur, which often means that greasy rub marks can be seen along walls or entrance points. Their burrows can be found in places such as roof insulation, along fences or walls, under buildings and decking, in stored items or in woodpiles.
