Treatment of termites Geelong Bellarine and the Surfcoast

Posted on July 29, 2016

Do you think you have found live termites in or around your home?

Not sure what the next step is?

First and foremost don’t disturb them anymore than you may already have, the least you disturb them, the better the treatment options you have. Disturbance of foraging termites may alert the termite colony to retreat and they may then appear to be gone, but in fact, possibly still be entering the dwelling in other areas.

An important part of any successful treatment starts with a thorough timber pest inspection. An inspection is undertaken to assess the problem and extent of the infestation. From here we work out a management plan suited to the design and construction of the building affected.

CHEMICAL SOIL TREATMENT

The installation of a chemical treated zone, like all pest management solutions, is best undertaken by a licensed Pest control operator, one with expert knowledge on termites and the appropriate specialized equipment to form a complete and continuous treated zone under or around the building in question.

Before treatment is carried out, it may be necessary to rectify some conducive situations noted in the initial timber pest inspection report. These may include timber in soil contact and any number of other possible concealed termite entry points.

Paving retained against a building in Anglesea, this is a possible concealed termite entry point.

Bricks and soil retained from against the building before treatment. Removal of timber in contact with soil and possible concealed entry point.

If a buildings design or construction makes a treated zone impossible to install effectively, our next option is Baiting and monitoring.

TERMITE BAITING & MONITORING – Exterra

This involves installation of monitoring Stations around your property where termites are likely to be foraging for food. The Stations contain eucalypt timber interceptors,  the termites preferred food source.

Monitoring stations are inspected on a regular basis and the design of the station allows for termites to be seen when inspecting the unit without unnecessary disturbance. It also ensures limited disruption when the bait is added.

Termites

If activity is present inside the building bait is introduced to the workings and contained in a safe tamperproof above ground station. This bait is highly palatable to termites and they feed on it in preference to timber, it has also been proven that once termites start feeding on the bait that they stop feeding on the timbers in your home.

When termites feed on the bait it gets taken back to the nest where it is fed throughout the whole colony. The termites die slowly and don’t realise the colony’s unhealthy state is due to the bait they have been consuming. This ensures that the entire colony is eliminated.
